I found the expression on Hannibal’s face this whole scene really, really interesting.

Now, I have an awful habit of over analyzing things when they appeal to me simply so that I can find the good I want in them, so a lot of what I’m saying may not be very valid.

This whole scene, Hannibal had the weirdest expression. It’s a little sad, a little confused, and a little worried. It makes me wonder if he does perhaps care about Abigail a little bit, and he’s worried about whether or not his comforting her is genuine.

I recognize the majority of what he does for people is out of selfishness, essentially to save his own ass, but seeing how he acts around Will and Abigail lately makes me wonder if he actually does value his friendship with them a bit more than he feels comfortable with. His initial intent may have been to better himself, but maybe, deep down, he does care about the well being of the people around him just a little bit. For just a little moment, he wondered if he liked comforting someone else. He cared.

Not very much though, if at all. He is clearly a man very separated from his emotions. Even if he does feel any, he doesn’t allow them to rule him. If this wasn’t the case, and he was capable of genuinely loving another person, he’d be a person saddled with a lot of guilt because of how many he’s hurt. Any ‘love’ he’s felt, up to this point at least, has been nothing more of an act. I honestly can’t pick out anything that’d make Abigail or Will special  apart from the fact they may remind him a little bit of himself. He recognizes how HE would feel about HIM in their situations.

This also makes me wonder how this whole thing would have unrolled if Abigail didn’t know any of his secrets, and he simply only knew hers.

Or maybe Mads was just thinking about something really hard right here and the expression means nothing at all, which is probably the case.
